The thing with Canon as a brand and as a product is that it’s less about photography and more about lifestyle, just as lifestyle photography is, which is why they go together so well. You don’t think art or documentary or wildlife when you think Canon – you think generic stock photos at best. Shaniqua in a business suit leading a corporate meeting, that’s Canon photography.
However, 150€ for an as-new 1300D with a kit lens and a few extra nice to haves is not something to pass on. Not when you’re a broke loser with a burning desire to start doing photography again. Besides, the seller turned out to be a very nice and friendly guy so we had a drink and he educated me on Canon’s allegedly amazing color science, which made me almost optimistic. That same day I went for the first shoot, aperture priority only, to check how well the camera operates. I came back with one usable shot out of a hundred something total, so that’s that.
